Open Question: I'd like to know what I need to learn in order to develop iPhone apps ...?

I want to develop applications for iPhone, iPods and iPads but I have no clue where to start. I heard of an SDK (provided by Apple) and that's about it. How to get my idea into the hands of a regular user by developing my own apps?
